This 3-day Reykjavík based dive tour is an excellent way to experience the diving and natural wonders of south western Iceland while staying in the city over a long weekend or as part of an extended stay. Take part in the ultimate introduction to arctic diving as we plunge into the Atlantic Ocean, dive in a fissure between tectonic plates and explore the bubbling craters of a geothermal lake. Between dives we will visit the dramatic sea cliffs and steaming natural hot springs of the Reykjanes peninsula. We will also travel the famous Golden Circle route including the spectacular Geysir and unmissable Gullfoss waterfall.
- Day 1: Diving in Kleifarvatn and sightseeing at Seltun
On the first day of this 3 day tour we will start by visiting Seltun, a geothermal hot spring area where we will marvel at bubbling mud pots, hot springs and colorful sulphur deposits. This is an experience that truly showcases the forces of nature at play to prepare for the geothermal spring dive. The underwater springs consist of a series of craters in the lat floor where minieral rich water and sulphurous gases escape from the Earth's crust. IT is a special experience to see, hear, feel and even smell the bubbles all around you.
- Day 2: Ocean dive tour to Gardur
Gardur (Ther Garden) is our favorite ocean dive site in the greater Reykjavik area. Located at a small fishing village, this site is spectacural in terms of underwater scenary and marine life with kelp forests offering a diverse habitat for many interesting species, including wolf fish, scorpion fish, all manner of flat fish, lump suckers, and more. For the macro life enthusiast, there is an abundance of nudibranchs, sea stars, giant sea urchins ans sea squirts, along with crustaceans suc as crabs and scallops, as well of shrimps cosckles and much ore. After our dive, we head south to Gunnuhver an area of intense geothermal activity and striking natural beauty. Here we will have the chance to explore another geothermal site and climb sea cliffs for a spectacular view out of the North Atlantic Ocean.
- Day 3: Diving Silfra & Golden Circle
On the third and final day of the tour, we travel to the most spectacular dive site in Iceland, Silfra. This one of a kind dive site is located in Thingvellir National Park and UNESCO World Heritage Site, about a 45 minute drive from Reykjavik. Once we are geared up we will take a few steps down a purpose built ladder and make contact with the world's clearest water. It is so pure you can even drink it. Take a sip! Ranked as one of the great dive sites of the world, diving in this glacial melt water filled tectonic lava fissure is truly an unforgettable experience not to be missedby any serous diver. After warming up with some hot chacolate we will leave Silvra along the northern coast of the spectacular late Thingvellir and begin out Golden Circle tour. The tour will include the world famous Geysir and unmissable Gullfoss waterfall.
