“ The highlight of our Norway trip!! ”
My boyfriend and I took the "Off the beaten track" hike in late May. Booking and communication with Outdoor Life Norway was very easy and clear. We originally booked our hike on Thursday, but the weather wasn't looking too good so we moved it to Friday 2 days before the hike. They were very accommodating.
The hike was the highlight of our trip. It really is off the beaten track, we didn't see anyone but our own hiking group the entire hike until we got to Preikestolen. Being able to canoe made the experience really unique. After canoeing, it's an uphill hike with breathtaking views the entire way up. I would consider my boyfriend and myself in decently good shape, and the hike was no problem for us. It was tricky at some points, but the guides do a good job with instructions to make sure you are safe.
I have nothing but great things to say about the guides-- Erland, Fabricio and Sal. They were so knowledgeable about the hike and surrounding area. They were also helpful and friendly, and really made sure that each person felt comfortable during the hike.
We opted into the lunch package and photo package-- both were worth the money.
100% would recommend this hike to anyone in decent shape that's looking for a quiet, unique and picturesque hike in Norway.

“ Preikestolen hike ”
Had the most amazing time ever. Our guide was a real professional, very helpful and kind, gave us safety instructions, pointed out perfect spots for taking pictures, provided hiking poles and clothes if necessary, brought snacks and warm drinks, answered all the questions we had. The hike itself was fantastic on so many different levels as we started to kayak right from the beginning- no experience needed as the guide will talk you through and will keep you safe during the whole time. The track we took was really hidden, hadn’t met any other tourists till we got to Preikestolen itself. The views we had a chance to see were breaking as we claimed over Preikestolen and had fabulous scenic views over the whole fjord- won’t have a chance to see them from Preikestolen rock. Had great time!

“ Amazing experience! ”
it was an incredible experience. 100% recommendable. Jeff was our guide and he took us perfectly along a path really far from tourists with spectacular views of the fjord and the pulpit Rock.
Crossing the lake was surprising and then we started climbing through the forest until we ended up in steep climbs on the rock to finally descend to the preikestolen. Definitely i’d recommend this activity.!!!!

“ Brilliant foggy hike to ourselves ”
Had a fantastic time hiking up to Preikestolen, and would definitely love to go back again in clearer weather! Our guide Hilda met us from the boat, and drove us to the start of the trek. She was friendly and chatty, and knowledgeable about the area. The hike itself wasn’t too tiring, and the fog gave it a mysterious edge. We had Preikestolen to ourselves when we were up there, which was an added bonus. Hiking back in the dark was a great experience too!

“ A wonderful encouragement from Johannes ”
I was planned to join the "Off the Beaten Track" but due to I have knee pain, so I have contacted the organization via email beforehand, soon after Johannes replied, I told him my situation, he told me the details of the tour and advised I should not take risk. He concerns SAFETY first, not that kind of money oriented man! Also his word to me, "The mountain will not go away in our lifetime. You are welcome to come back in the future! =)" this is a very positive encouragement! Although I haven't join this time, I will come back for sure!! Thanks Johannes!!!

“ Great adventure off the beaten track ”
This a great experience if you are looking for something above and beyond the usual hike up the path. Our guide (Erlend) led us first to a canoe ride across the lake and then wen on a semi-challenging hike up an alternate route to Preikestolen - he provided us with great insights along the way and took excellent photos for those who availed the photo package. We were a small group and had a great time just soaking up the environment away from the crowds -i t was only in Preikestolen that we caught up (for a short time) with other Pulpit Rock visitors. Going back down was also a mostly relaxing experience as we took a different route. I highly recommend this tour for people who want to really experience what Preikestolen (and its surroundings) has to offer.

“ Reviewed 3 weeks ago Only go to Preikestolen this way!!!!!!!!! ”
This is absolutely the ONLY way to go to see "Pulpit Rock"!! In fact, after you get to the rock, you will want to go back to where you had just hiked, b/c you actually had even better views!!!! With the off the beaten path tour you hike with just your group and a very small group (max 8), with an amazing guide! We had Alan for this hike and he was great!!! Great personality (funny!!!) and has a vast knowledge of the region, and local flora (which are many!). The hike itself is so beautiful and in complete solitude. You do not see anyone until you reach the EXTREMELY overcrowded rock and the main trail. I cannot emphasize extremely enough!!!!! If my husband and I would have done the main hike by ourselves, we would have hated it.
Luckily, we did not and had a truly unforgettable experience!! I truly cannot recommend this company highly enough!!! You do need to be in good shape to do it, just FYI, It is not extremely hard, but you do need to be in shape. It is a good workout, for sure. Also, do not be discouraged by what looks like a long day on paper, it is 100% worth it!!!! The travel time to and from is not bad at all.

“ great hike, great guide ”
medium difficulty hike with a beautiful scenery all to ourselves (it was on the way back through the traditional trail that we were able to see how we escaped the crowds...). hilda was a great guide that really contributed to make this experience even better.
highly recommend it!

“ Best Hiking Tour You'll Ever Take ”
This off the beaten hike is definitely the best way to get to Preikestolen, as you will canoe and hike around areas where there is no one else around— just you, your hiking group and some breathtaking scenery. My guide was Hilde and she was great. She is very friendly and knowledgeable, as she will explain everything ranging from the region’s geological history, legends, etc. This is a great company that you should book for your hikes. I can’t wait to hike with them again when I’m back in Stavanger.

“ If you can only do one hike around Stavanger, this is the hike for you !!! ”
This is the best hike you can do in Rogaland.
You start the Journey with a quick canoe ride across the lake and then you start the hike away from the crowd.
Alan was a great guide teaching us about wild life, plants, etc.…
The view from the hike is getting better and better when you're climbing. And the best reason why you should take this hike. You are away from all the tourists, it's only you and nature.

“ Off the beaten track ”
This hike was a great experience. Our guide was Johannes, he was super friendly and professional. The views were sensational. The hike itself is quite tough so I would recommend one would have a certain level of fitness. It is also awesome because we got to a kid all the crowds for the most part. Truly recommend!

“ Exceptional experience. ”
This hike is the best way to see Preikestolen. It was just an exceptional experience. We left Stavanger at 0.15am and our hike commenced at 2.15am. We arrived back at "base camp" for breakfast at 7am. My tour host was Mathilde and she was wonderful. She is friendly, engaging, extremely fit, patient and knowledgeable. I think she was born for tge outdoors, nature and hiking. She made tge hike a memorable experience for me and i thank her for that. As for Preikestolen. ...see for yourself but do yourself a favour and use this company....youll never regret it; missing the crowds and instead, experiencing the sunrise. And i can assure anyone a little afraid of heights (i am) ....you will be fine...so, if you use Outdoorlifenorway.com you will also appreciate not having to share the narrow ledge on approach with crowds of people!

“ Kjerag and off the beaten track Preikestolen hikes ”
Did two amazing hikes with Outdoorlife Norway. Mathilde and Ingve were our wonderful guides through Kjerag. I could see that hike being dangerous, but they made sure we got through safely. In addition to the boulder, the views were spectacular. Off the beaten track lives up to its name. The canoeing to start was different and fun. Then, hiking through forest and avoiding the crowds was well worth it. Helping us through and providing plenty of entertainment was our guide Erlend. I especially appreciated that he gave us enough time to take photos on Pulpit Rock once the fog finally cleared. I highly recommend both hikes with Outdoorlife Norway.

“ Amazing Norway! Preikestolen,Off the beaten Track!! ”
An amazing experience into the fjord heart!
A real great hiking tour! The hike was quite challenging for me, i used to do some soft hiking, but this one was quite intense, some parts even include a bit of climbing as well, it sure is an off beaten track!!
The tour starts with a canoa ride which bring you to the starting point of the hike and you can feel the peaceful nature there already; after that, the hike start! Be sure to bring a lot of water, snacks and food!
We were a small group of three plus the guide; the other two were a very nice and friendly couple which was very experienced in hiking.
The hiking will bring you on top of the lysefjord where you will have a small lunch and rest; after that, you’ll start descending to the Preikestolen, where you will be free for 30minutes before heading back home through the normal way.
The weather was perfect and The nature there is really amazing, plus ,with this tour, you will be able to see much more sightseeing and breathtaking places than normal people see.
Overall a really amazing hike!!...with some minor points i like it less:
1. Since I was not an expert hiker and I was a bit slower than the others, I had the feeling, for the whole tour, to be left behind. While I understand that if I’m the slowest it’ll be normal that I’ll be the last in the group, one thing I didn’t like was that, lot’s of time, I didn’t even see where the guide was and how he managed to get there and I had to guess where to go in order to reach them. In some part it was so obvious that even one of the couple, instead of the guide, was so nice to wait for me, making sure I was not hurt or lost.... it could be dangerous, especially in some parts where you are quite high, close to the border, not an expert and in an unbeaten track.
2. I had paid also for the extra photo packages, and after the tour, I got an email stating that, in 3 days more or less, I would have received a link in my email were I would be able to download the pics. In the email it was written clearly not to send any reminding about the progress of the pics upload in order not to slow down the process. That’s what i did for one week, after that, I ask them some updates only to find out they have forgotten about me and my email. They sent me the link and I was lucky to download everything just two days before it was going to be cancelled from it.
These was the only two negative points ( ...and that’s why I removed two dots ) apart from that, a really good and unforgettable experience which I suggest everyone should do it! .....j

“ If you are thinking about doing one of these trips, stop thinking and just do it! ”
If you are thinking about doing one of these trips, stop thinking and just do it! Amazing experience! We did the “off the beaten track” and couldn’t have asked for a better guide in Johannes, very friendly, informative and a good laugh. The canoeing to start with on this trip is a very nice touch and we were very lucky to have amazing weather. Well worth the money.

“ Das kann durchaus sehr anstrengend sein. ”
Beide Wanderungen mit Johannes waren wunderbar 🙂 preikestolen hike “off the beaten track” - Preikestolen Hike Off The Beaten Track - 1f642!

“ Besides the big star of the show, the pulpit rock, every 100 meters it was possible to admire fabulous views. ”
I booked the “Off the Beaten Track” hitinerary to Preikestolen and I didn’t regret; besides the big star of the show, the pulpit rock, every 100 meters it was possible to admire fabulous views. Walking alongside the fjord, watching it in its entirety from the highest peak, was a show comparable to the emotion of sitting on the edge of the Pulpit rock, more than 600m high from the sea level. The trail is not that hard if you are in good shape, but I’ve been also lucky to find lovely weather. The guide Alan (that’s the name I used to call him ’cause his real name was to difficutl to pronounce for me) has been a real star, explaining me during the journey everything about the Lyserfjord area and entertaining me with tales about Norway. If I will go back to Stavanger I will definetly choose to hike with this company again.

“ You’ll get a wonderful hike, stunning views and a true glimpse at life in Stavanger! ”
We asked for a custom “Off the Beaten Track” since our cruise ship arrived too late to join the regular tour. Johannes and Christopher arranged everything perfectly, even though we had less time at our disposal than usually required for the tour. The tour itself was wonderful and luckily almost entirely avoided the crowded paths of the regular way to Preikestolen. In the end, we were a little disappointed by the Preikestolen – but only because the views Christopher had shown us before were even more stunning! We would advise everyone to book a tour to Preikestolen with Outdoorlife Norway. You’ll get a wonderful hike, stunning views and a true glimpse at life in Stavanger!

“ Las vistas son IN-CRE-Í-BLES!!! ”
Hice 2 tours con Outdoorlife Norway
Preikestolen “Off the Beaten Track” y Kjeragbolten “Beat the Crowd”

“ Erlend was such a friendly guide with a fantastic sense of humour. ”
We went up with Erlend the morning of the 26th and can honestly say it was one of the best hikes we have ever been on. We really lucked out with the weather which allowed us to see the incredible Norweigian landscape. Erlend was such a friendly guide with a fantastic sense of humour. This tour is truly one of a kind where the only people you see for the entire morning are those in your group. I think we were all actually disappointed to get to Preikestolen and be surrounded by so many people! The quiet nooks and incredibly scenery on the way up your own private path truly makes this a must-do hike. Couldn’t recommend this any more.

“ One of the best experiences of our whole trip, and not something I will ever forget. ”
We took the Beat the Crowds hike up the Kjerag and we are so happy we chose to go thru Outdoorlife Norway. It was a great day, an amazing hike, and we got the most out of it because we had a guide with a plan. As a couple of mediocre Midwest US hikers in 50 year old average fitness bodies, on our first trip to Norway, there is no way we could’ve pulled this off as successfully without Outdoorlife. Highly recommend taking this hike with this small company. One of the best experiences of our whole trip, and not something I will ever forget.

“ The highlight of the hike was the guide, he is amazingly knowledgeable about everything from plants to people on the way. ”
Hi, I opted for the hike with beer tasting on August 13th.my guide was Alan and curiously enough I was the only one hiking with outdoor Norway on this particular hike, this allowed me to experience the hike in a unique way. The highlight of the hike was the guide, he is amazingly knowledgeable about everything from plants to people on the way.
There were many be 5 people on the whole hiking path that I encountered, so it like a very private hike. Anyone who is looking to go off the regular should surely opt for this. Keep talking to Alan, he is very entertaining and thought me a lot about Norway’s culture.
Post the hike, the beer tasting is just an amazing experience on its own, the staff will explain each and every beer you taste, the food and ambiance will certainly appeal to anyone.
I would rate this 10/10 for the guide and views alone about the beer tasting just makes it’s an unbelievably great thing to do. Highly recommended!!!!
P.s. I would recommend that anyone who is hiking opt for the weather proof clothes and hiking boots provided by the company as they are battle tested.

“ When I come back to Norway I will definitely re-book this tour. ”
I booked the Beat the Crowds hike to Kjerag and was highly impressed from start to finish. Our group was picked up on time and Johannes was a knowledgeable host and guide. During the hike I felt like my safety was a priority while we enjoyed breathtaking views. The hike is demanding. Be sure you are fit for high intensity cardio. Pack snacks and water. I highly recommend the photography package so you can focus on the scenery. After the hike we had plenty of time to change into dry clothes and grab a take-away meal which I ate on the fary ride. The added boat ride was lovely. Johannes is very knowledgeable about Norway’s history, the geography and the natural landscape. I cannot over-emphasize the attention to detail. When I come back to Norway I will definitely re-book this tour. Thank you for a fantastic experience!

My boyfriend and I joined the “Off the Beaten Path to preik stolen” on aug 5th. It was a great adventure! We followed a very nature and undeveloped path. Sometimes we need to climb very big rocks, which makes the hiking very challenging, especially in rainy days. Luckily, our guides were very professional and kind. They helped a lot during climbing!
Although we were unlucky on that day ( it was raining all the time, we could not see too much) , but the hiking itself was very interesting and exciting! It is an unforgettable experience and highly recommended!

“ I traveled to Stavanger alone just for the Preikestolen. ”
Verified review, copied from TripAdvisor
I traveled to Stavanger alone just for the Preikestolen. I found Outdoorlife Norway offered a off-beaten tour to Preikestolen. Because I went there in May, some people said it is a bit dangerous to hike there alone. This tour gave me a guide and tour mates which made me feel save, even though the hiking is not easy. I am kind of a beginner, the path is tough and you must need a pair of hiking shoes. But the views of the tour is better than the normal path, there are too many people on the Pulpit Rock. This tour also offers canoeing, but May is still cold in Norway. Last but not least, our guide Christopher is an experienced and strong guide, he brought his dog, Thea, which made the tour more fun!!!

My boyfriend signed us up for the Preikestolen hike without giving me much background information but I can positively attest this Outdoorlife hike was the absolute best piece of our trip to Norway. Our guide, Eric, was fantastic! The hike up was gorgeous and after reaching Pulpit Rock, I am so grateful we did not take the standard hike with the hundreds of other tourists to the top! Physically it was a pleasant challenge but nothing a slightly fit person can’t handle!! I would recommend this trip to anyone!! Can’t wait to go on another adventure!!!

“ What a wonderful experience!!. ”
I chose the "Preikestolen off the beaten track hike" for my only day of stay in Stavanger, and I did the right choice! What a wonderful experience!!. I would highly recommend to choose this hike to anyone who wants experience the quietness and the relaxing power of the norwegian nature far away from the noisy crowds walking through the traditional preikestolen track.
My guide for that day was Erlend. He was very professional, nice and helpful and along the route he gave me also useful information about the norwegian flora and fauna and tips how to take the best pics allowing me to appreciate even more the hike. Even if that day was a a bit rainy, i enjoyed so much the hike and being alone with my guide (what a luck!!..) gave me a unique experience of two lone hikers in the middle of nature, which it was exactly what i was looking for.
The hike begun canoeing through a glacial lake near the preikestolhytta, and then went up really off the beaten tracks in the woods toward the fjord ridge. The whole hike requires good physical condition, since there are some steep sections both in the woods and nearby the fjord ridge but it is not that difficult if you had previous hiking experience. Once we reached the Preikestolen i had time to take some pics and enjoy the view, then we started our way down again off the beaten tracks in the woods.
In conclusion if you want a memory lasting experience and not just the selfie on top of the pulpit rock, and above all, if you are really passionate about walking in the quietness of the nature i would highly reccomend to choose this hike.
